BROW lift
One of the earliest signs of aging occurs in the forehead and eyebrow area. After years of facial muscle motion, deep furrowed wrinkles appear in the area above the eyes commonly referred to as the frown lines. As aging occurs, facial muscles and skin lose their tone and excess skin on the forehead follows the pull of gravity and crowds the eyebrows. This is the direct result of constant use of the muscles in the forehead and facial expression. In addition, the effects of gravity and the loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone that occur with age and repeated exposure to the sun contribute to the drooping of the forehead and eyebrows. Drooping of the eyebrows can also lead to excessive skin accumulating in the upper eyelids. If the upper part of your face is beginning to suffer the effects of gravity, a forehead or “browlift” procedure can greatly improve the appearance of your face. The brow lift is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eye. The brow lift is a procedure in which the skin of the forehead and brow are tightened to raise the eyebrows. The brow lift smoothes the forehead, corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make you appear angry, sad or tired. The muscles and tissue that cause drooping are altered or removed to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows and minimize frown lines. Oftentimes eyelid surgery is performed in combination with a brow lift.
The internal brow lift is a procedure that allows the brow to be lifted through an upper eyelid crease incision, eliminating a detectable scar once the tissues have healed. Dr. Landy also offers a small-incision endoscopic approach that minimizes scarring and allows for a speedy recovery. The primary advantage to selecting an endoscopic brow or forehead lift procedure is the ability to place small incisions in the scalp behind the hair line that are minimally invasive compared to the larger incisions used in coronal and direct brow lifts. The small incisions result in less swelling and bruising during the healing process and because the hairline is not altered by these small incisions patients are assured a more natural appearance. This advanced, “state of the art” surgical procedure minimizes the complications sometimes seen with coronal brow lifts such as scarring, hair loss and numbness of the scalp as it elevates the eyebrows, smoothes the forehead and decreases the effect of muscle contraction on the area between the eyebrows.
