It is an Nd:YAG laser with high peak power and a high rep rate of 40Hz. The procedure is done entirely under local tumescent anesthesia. It employs a laser fiber enclosed in a thin tube that is inserted through a 1-2mm incision in the skin. The laser causes the disruption of fat cells. The liquefied fat then is removed from the area with minimal bleeding and damage to the underlying tissue. The laser in addition allows small arteries and veins to coagulate minimizing bruising and swelling and leaves the skin firmer after the procedure. The procedure can usually be done in a single 45 to 60 minute treatment with local anesthesia.
